Yabby Yaks Frugal Fibre

As you may have seen, we started to check out a $4.50 Crochet your own Kitten Castle Craft kit from Dollerama.

The kit contains:

- instructions

- Acrylic yarn in white, pink, light brown and grey

- embroidery thread

- darning needle

- safety eyes

- stitch marker

- Required crochet hook (3.5 mm)

The kit says that it is for ages 5+.  Kim, who is an intermediate crocheter, attempted this kit.  The instructions included were in a very small text.  The pattern provides a stitch guide with pictures of the different stitches.  Unfortunately, the instructions make no mention of the required colour changes in the patterns.

Kim found that this kit is (unfortunately) not beginner friendly and doesn’t recommend this kit if you are looking at starting out in crochet.

If you are interested in trying a beginner friendly crochet pattern, you may want to try something like the following patterns:

These patterns have all been tried out by Baby Yak with success.

If you are interested in trying out a pattern which uses a little more colorwork, she has also made Mini Tanner the Triceratops (https://www.thenicolechase.com/patterns/mini-tanner-the-triceratops ) - however, I would recommend sticking with a regular acrylic yarn as the chenille yarn is a little challenging to keep track of the stitches.

We hope that you have found the information we provided regarding this pattern as well as the included alternate suggestion.  The Yaks want everyone to find joy in the fibre arts and hope you will continue to follow along with our Frugal Fibre adventures.
